ENSENADA ATTRACTIONS
A forward-looking city with every modern convenience (including first-rate medical facilities), Ensenada also reflects a romantic past. You'll see it in its cobblestone sidewalks and the colorful shops of its local artisans. Hear it in the songs of strolling musicians. Taste it in its famous fish tacos or in a cold cerveza at one the city's legendary cantinas -- like Hussong's. The oldest bar in the Californias, Hussong's Cantina was founded in 1892 by the German-born patriarch of the family now associated with the landmark resort that is Porto Hussong.
THE LURE OF THE SEA
Some of the finest deep-sea fishing in the world is found in the waters off Ensenada. There's marlin, or course, and yellowtail. Lots of them. But also bass, halibut, cod, sheephead, and perch, to name just a few. And when you want to give your rod and reel a rest, there's surfing, kayaking, sailing, and snorkeling. Not to mention a long and inviting coastline of beautiful beaches.
SOME OF ENSENADA'S MANY ATTRACTIONS
The list of things to see here is also long, and near the top of it is the 70-ft. spray of seawater from the natural wonder known as "La Bufadora," one of the largest marine geysers in the world.
The countryside surrounding Ensenada is Mexico's version of Napa Valley, producing more than 90% of the country's wines. Most of the local wineries offer daily tours and tastings, and in the summers, a variety of wine-and-food festivals.
The region's mission history can be explored at the nearby missions of San Borja and Santa Gertrudis. While the period architecture of the Riviera del Pacifico, a premiere casino in the 1930's, provides a stunning visual reminder of the area's more recent past.
Also within the county of Ensenada you'll find the primitive cave paintings of Catavina and the incredible rock formations of the Parque Nacional Constitucion De 1957, a national park in the cool pine forests of the high country.
